Funding Of The Commonwealth Institute

EDM number 2525 in 1992-93, proposed by Robert Parry on 26/10/1993.

That this House is shocked at the Foreign and Commonwealth Office recent decision to withdraw funding from the Commonwealth Institute from March 1996; notes that the decision comes in the Institute's centenary year and ignores the recommendations of Lord Armstrong's recent review; believes that understanding of the Commonwealth, its people and issues, will be lessened, and relations between the United Kingdom and other Commonwealth countries harmed; and calls on the Government to fund the Institute after 1996 so that its valuable work can continue.
