Environmental Pollution In Latvia

That this House views with horror the appalling effect of environmental pollution on the children of Latvia resulting from the dumping of toxic waste in Central and Eastern European countries; welcomes the Latvian Government's decision to ban the import of hazardous waste; notes that the United Kingdom exported 83,000 tonnes of toxic waste for recycling in 1992 to developing countries, including parts of Central and Eastern Europe; and believes that the Latvian Government's import ban must be matched by an export ban by Western governments and the provision of adequate funds for pollution prevention programmes.
