Mine Safety And The BBC Television Programme "public Eye"

That this House congratulates those responsible for the BBC programme 'Public Eye' concerning safety in the mine which was broadcast on 29th October; notes that this programme revealed serious breaches of mine safety regulations and practice and fears that the recent changes in those regulations might not only facilitate he privatisation of the mines but enable dangerous practices to be pursued; and regrets that the programme could reveal malpractices or error in the sampling of dust and in the granting of exemptions from regulations on an extensive scale in regard to reliance upon roof bolts and in working under unsupported roofs.
