Cancellation Of Trident Programme

EDM number 282 in 1992-93, proposed by Alex Salmond on 17/06/1992.

That this House warmly congratulates Presidents Bush and Yeltsin on the far-sighted and far-reaching agreement reached in Washington on 16th June by the United States of America and Russia which commits both countries to the elimination of all intercontinental ballistic missiles (ICBMs) as well as securing a massive reduction in total strategic nuclear weapons; hails this agreement as an historic breakthrough in the cause of world peace and global security; believes that this agreement has serious and profound implications for the future of the Trident programme which will escalate the number of United Kingdom warheads at a time when the United States of America and Russia are drastically cutting their own; and calls on Her Majesty's Government to match the statesmanship demonstrated by Presidents Bush and Yeltsin by ordering the immediate cancellation of the Trident programme.

This motion has been signed by a total of 6 MPs.
