Tv Rewards For Mr Roy Cornes

EDM number 429 in 1992-93, proposed by Joseph Ashton on 06/07/1992.

That this House deplores the reports that Mr Roy Cornes, an HIV carrier who knowingly infected four women in Birmingham, one of whom died, is said to have been paid ú10,000 by Granada Television to appear on the so-called Richard and Judy show last Sunday; notes that he claimed the newspaper reports about him to be untrue; wonders therefore why he has not sued for libel; is saddened by the Prime Minister's refusal to consider a prosecution for this form of grievous bodily harm or manslaughter in his reply to the honourable Member for Bassetlaw on 2nd July despite other countries such as France and the United States of America making the knowing transfer of AIDS a criminal offence; and calls on the Secretary of State for Health to recommend criminal sanctions in her forthcoming White Paper and also the payment of compensation for this type of criminal injury.

This motion has been signed by a total of 10 MPs.
