Pensioners And Housing/community Charge Benefit

That this House recognises that income support allows continuation of benefits whereas housing/community charge benefit is renewable every 12 months or cancelled if forms are not returned; expresses concern at the confusion caused to claimants and the administrative problems for local authorities; believes that these problems will continue with the introduction of the council tax; and calls upon the Government to amend the rules to allow pensioners in receipt of income support to have an ongoing benefit entitlement for housing/community charge benefit, as is the case with income support, rather than have to reapply every 12 months.
