Rechem Pcbs And The Import Of Toxic Waste

EDM number 474 in 1992-93, proposed by Simon Hughes on 10/07/1992.

That this House notes that the ReChem Pontypool plant processes almost a quarter of all toxic waste imported into the United Kingdom; further notes that 15,000 people live within a two mile radius of the Pontypool plant; demands that before any further operating licence is granted to ReChem a public inquiry is established by the Welsh Office involving the full participation of ReChem International, Torfaen and Gwent Councils, Her Majesty's Inspectorate of Pollution, Welsh Water and all other interested parties; believes that only such a public inquiry into the environmental health effects of PCB incineration will establish the full facts to the satisfaction of the local and wider communities; and accordingly calls on Re-Chem International to announce that they will welcome and fully participate in any forthcoming public inquiry.

This motion has been signed by a total of 16 MPs.
