Maryport Harbour Development

EDM number 499 in 1992-93, proposed by DN Campbell-Savours on 14/07/1992.

That this House congratulates Anthony Collier Associates of South Quay, Maryport, for receiving a commendation award from the Royal Fine Arts Commission and The Sunday Times, under their Building of the Year Award 1992; notes that this award was made for design and architectural work carried out on the Ritson Wharf, Harbour Housing Project, in the town of Maryport; believes that such an award, which was one of three allocated nationally for building works, is a tribute to the quality of work produced by this practice and paves the way for the further development of Maryport Harbour as potentially one of Britain's most attractive harbour developments; further congratulates Maryport Developments, Thomas Armstrong Ltd., local councillors and others, including officials, who have striven to transform the former dereliction of Maryport Harbour into a major tourist attraction; expresses the hope that, with all involved pulling together, with the public and private sectors working in harmony, the objective of developing the harbour will be realised; and recognises that the future of Maryport Harbour is critically important to the wider development of Maryport.
