Inward Investment In Wales

EDM number 538 in 1992-93, proposed by Rhodri Morgan on 16/07/1992.

That this House calls on the Secretary of State for Wales and the Chairman of the Welsh Development Agency to withdraw the claim made in the Welsh Office Press Release of 15th July that Wales leads the United Kingdom in inward investment, since the figures from Scotland are not drawn up on a comparable basis with those from Wales; and further notes that in the Welsh Development Agency's own Draft Business Plan, North America Division, it states that 'our market share does not make good reading', which hardly supports the headline claim of the Secretary of State that the 1991-92 results for Wales are 'excellent figures'.
