Disability Living Allowance Unit (No.2)
EDM number 609 in 1992-93, proposed by Harry Barnes on 20/10/1992.
That this House is deeply concerned about the contents of letters recently received from the Disability Living Allowance Unit by the Chesterfield Citizens' Advice Bureau, which confirm that the Unit is currently unable to operate in a reasonable manner; noted that these letters acknowledge that the Unit is 'very much aware and concerned about the unacceptable standard of service which is being offered' and recognise that it is (a) often difficult to contact by telephone, (b) unhelpful when finally contacted, (c) late in replying to letters, (d) slow in processing claims and (e) given to supplying contradictory and inaccurate information; and believes that the Secretary of State for Social Security should seek to explain to the House why an agency of his Department is so incompetent and what plans he has to tackle the crisis in the Unit.
