Windsor Castle And The Urban Programme

That this House notes with astonishment that Ministers have entered into an open-ended commitment to restore the recently damaged Windsor Castle, a second home, at taxpayers' expense; observes that at the earliest stage experts estimate the likely cost to be of the order of tens of millions of pounds; contracts the readiness of Ministers to spend millions on one residence and the recent announcement of the discontinuation of the Urban Programme; believes that this policy change will cause many citizens to exist longer in homes and neighbourhoods desperate for investment; and calls upon Her Majesty's Government, therefore, to change its priorities in a way which benefits the many rather than the few.
