Cyprus Talks (No.3)

That this House notes with regret the view of the UN Security Council, as expressed in its resolution 789 (1992), that the recent round of talks on the Cyprus problem did not achieve their intended goal, in particular because the Turkish Cypriot side adopted certain positions which were fundamentally at variance with the UN Secretary General's 'set of ideas'; supports the appeal of the Security Council for all concerned to be positive in the next round of talks; further supports the recommendation that each side in the dispute should initiate specified confidence-building measures; notes that President Vassiliou has publicly accepted the recommendations of resolution 789 (1992); and calls upon Her Majesty's Government to act with energy, urgency and initiative as benefits a guarantor power to ensure that when the talks are resumed in March 1993, all those participating will negotiate positively towards a solution which offers justice, peace and prosperity to all the citizens of the sovereign Republic of Cyprus, be they of Greek, Turkish or of other ethnic origin.
