East Timor (No.2)

That this House is deeply concerned that the leader of the East Timorese resistance movement, Xanana Gusmao, is now being held in incommunicado detention by forces of occupation; believes the circumstances under which Xanana Gusmao made the televised statements means that he is not a free man; demands that Xanana Gusmao, as an East Timorese, must enjoy protection under the Fourth Geneva Convention and must be treated in accordance with international humanitarian law; and calls on the United Kingdom Government to make strong representations to the Indonesian Government for the immediate release of Mr Gusmao and all those arrested in connection with his case.
