Croxteth Community Comprehensive School

That this House recalls the struggle which took place in the years 1981 to 1983 to ensure the continued survival of the Croxteth Community Comprehensive School in a deprived part of Liverpool; remembers that the combined forces of parents, staff, pupils and local residents were successful in that struggle and that the issue was finally resolved through the ballot box by the election of a city council sympathetic to the sensible demands of the electors; deplores the current campaign aimed at removing the school from local education authority control; believes that the parents of pupils at the school will be more than aware of the Tory Government's reputation for cutting rather than expanding services whether it be in education or in health and community services; and trusts that the parents, mindful of the parsimony of the Government towards the needs of the City of Liverpool, will now now be prepared to pass the school into the hands of a Tory Secretary of State for Education who has failed adequately to fund Liverpool schools which have opted-out and who could close the school at the stroke of a pen without recourse to the ballot box.
