Labour Party And The Gerrymandering Of Scottish Local Government

EDM number 1102 in 1993-94, proposed by Andrew Welsh on 21/04/1994.

That this House recalls the Labour Party news release of 12th January in which the honourable Member for Hamilton forecast that Labour would be 'targeting English Tory MPs' in order to stop the Local Government etc. (Scotland) Bill; notes a briefing note from the honourable Member for Hamilton, of 21st April, which says 'Tory whipping has ensured a predictable victory on every vote taken' during the Committee stage; and believes that in light of losing 102 straight votes on the Committee the Labour Party should now apologise to the Scottish people for its decision to walk through the Government lobby on 1st February thus allowing five English Conservative honourable Members to gerrymander Scotland's local government and remove water from the democratic control of Scotland's local authorities.

This motion has been signed by a total of 3 MPs.
