Chairman Of The National Lottery Charities Board

EDM number 1223 in 1993-94, proposed by Tom Pendry on 13/05/1994.

That this House condemns the appointment of former Conservative Party Treasurer David Sieff as Chairman of the new National Lottery Charities Board; notes that the Arts Council Lottery Board is headed by Peter Gummer, brother of the Environment Secretary and Chairman of a company bidding for the licence to operate the lottery, and that of the six so-called independent members of the Millennium Commission, one is a former Conservative Councillor and another the Chairman of a company which has been a generous donor to the Tory Party; calls on the Government to replace the Chairs of the Charities Board and Arts Council Lottery Board with non-partisan appointments; and further calls on the Government to ensure that the appointments to head the two remaining lottery boards are non-partisan.

This motion has been signed by a total of 58 MPs.
