Dust Disease Victims

EDM number 1293 in 1993-94, proposed by Dafydd Wigley on 24/05/1994.

That this House views with great concern the fact that applications by ex-miners for DSS disablement benefit in respect of emphysema and chronic bronchitis are being rejected because of the unjustifiably high criteria for qualification set by the Government; notes that there are tens of thousands of sufferers in the mining areas, including an estimated 20,000 in Wales; and calls on government departments and ministers concerned to ensure that the qualifying criteria are reviewed so as to include all those affected by these industrial diseases, and to guarantee that all such applicants are able to receive an independent medical examination to assess disablement owing to industrial disease without any unfairly restrictive criteria.

This motion has been signed by a total of 22 MPs.
