That this House welcomes the proposals made by the Japanese Government-appointed advisory committee for energy to the Ministry for International Trade and Industry in Tokyo that due to international concern over the risks posed to the environment and additional proliferation problems arising from the trade of plutonium and its use as a reactor fuel that the Japanese Government should delay until the next century its plutonium re-use plans; recognises that soon a decision will make the operation of THORP at Sellafield even more absurd than before; and calls upon the Government to re-assess the final commissioning of THORP as a matter of urgency.
