LLOYD'S SYNDICATES

EDM number 1410 in 1993-94, proposed by Peter Bottomley on 28/06/1994.

That this House welcomes the acknowledgement by the Select Committee on Members' Interests in its Second Report of Session 1993-94 (HC 353) that (i) the Register is primarily about gains rather than losses, (ii) that 'the rule requiring registration of Lloyd's syndicate numbers may inadvertently have disturbed that balance in the case of a particular group of Members' and (iii) that 'it will be damaging to the status and true purpose of the Register of Members' Interests if media comment and speculation are seen as linked in any way to the rules and procedures for the registration of pecuniary interests'; and thanks the committee for its paragraph 7; but declines to take further action in relation to syndicate information because it prefers to change the requirement as recommended in paragraph 18.
