Standing Committee On Regional Affairs
EDM number 1422 in 1993-94, proposed by David Clelland on 30/06/1994.
That this House notes that, while proper arrangements are made for the regular discussion of Scottish, Welsh and Northern Ireland affairs, the Standing Committee on Regional Affairs has not met since 26th July 1978; is concerned at the increasing government of the English regions by quangos and civil servants without proper open democratic scrutiny at regional or national level; believes it to be appropriate and necessary for English regional issues to be regularly discussed in the House; and calls for the reconstitution of the Standing Committee on Regional Affairs with a regular schedule of meetings and for business to be referred to the committee as provided for by Standing Order No. 100.
This motion has been signed by a total of 51 MPs.
