Northowram Hospital

EDM number 1433 in 1993-94, proposed by Alice Mahon on 04/07/1994.

That this House believes the backdoor closing down of the purpose built Northowram Hospital for psychiatric and elderly people is a betrayal of the responsibility given to management to provide care for these vulnerable groups; is particularly angry that the Fidden Ward is to close when the Trust Business Plan 1994-95 has yet to be approved by the Department of Health; believes it is disgraceful that relatives are told their loved ones must be cared for in the community where they and future generations could face costs for care; and calls upon the Secretary of State for Health to make it absolutely clear that no patient can be forced to leave NHS care against their or their relatives' wishes.
