Guarantee Schemes On Home Improvements
EDM number 1472 in 1993-94, proposed by John Denham on 06/07/1994.
That this House congratulates the Southern Daily Echo on its work in highlighting the poor value of many guarantee schemes sold in conjunction with double-glazing and other home improvements; notes that, in many cases, customers are paying to guarantee rights which they already enjoy under the Supply of Goods and Services Act 1982 and that, in some cases, small print clauses seek to limit the value of the indemnity enjoyed; believes that they refusal of the Department of Trade and Industry to regulate such schemes is leaving householders vulnerable to exploitation; and urges the Office of Fair Trading to institute an enquiry into the promotion of such schemes.
