Customs Officers In Holyhead

EDM number 1477 in 1993-94, proposed by Ieuan Wyn Jones on 07/07/1994.

That this House condemns proposals to further reduce the number of customs officers in Holyhead by 17 as part of a package to restructure customs duties in the area which involves centralising the service in Liverpool; recalls the impressive record of customs officers in Holyhead including the seizure of drugs to the value of ú1 million from a vessel searched earlier this year; calls on H.M. Customs and Excise to scrap these ill-considered plans; and demands that the present complement of staff be retained including the flexible anti-smuggling team in view of its excellent record and the increase in traffic movements through the Port of Holyhead.

This motion has been signed by a total of 18 MPs.
