That this House notes with pleasure the great contribution made to national and international football and to Anglo-Irish relations by Jack Charlton, a Geordie born and bred in the north east of England; recognises that his unique qualities of skill, leadership and perseverance have raised the game of football to new heights; acknowledges that these fine Geordie characteristics have set an outstanding example to sportsmen and sportswomen throughout the world; and calls upon the Prime Minister to recognise his achievements by recommending that Her Majesty confer upon him a knighthood.
