Future Of The Merseyside And North Wales Blood Transfusion Centre

EDM number 1588 in 1993-94, proposed by David Alton on 17/10/1994.

That this House deplores the proposals to amalgamate the Mersey and North Wales Transfusion Centre with the Manchester Centre; notes this proposal affects 2.8 million people and will lead to an increase in time, in many cases doubled, for the transportation of blood to major towns and cities in Merseyside and North Wales; notes that blood donors will be denied the right to directly contribute to the healthcare of their community and that reorganisation of blood collection sessions could make it less convenient for donors to attend, thereby reducing the blood supply at a time when the Secretary of State is urging an increase in blood donation; expresses concern that the normal consultation period of 90 days was reduced to two months with just one North West representative on the 50-strong working party; and calls on the National Blood Authority to immediately abandon this proposal.

This motion has been signed by a total of 6 MPs.
