Ferry Companies And The Export Of Live Animals

That this House congratulates P & O and Stena Sealink on their decisions to stop carrying live farm animals to the Continent; is concerned that once British Animals reach the Continent they face welfare standards which can be appallingly low both during transport and at slaughter; deplores the fact that Brittany Ferries are continuing to carry young calves to veal crate farms in Northern France; congratulates Meridian Ferries on the decision not to carry live animals; calls on Humberside County Council, the owners of Humberside Airport, to stop permitting the airport to be used by unpressurised aircraft flying calves to veal crate forms in Holland; further calls on Shoreham Port Authority not to permit the port to be used by vessels carrying live animals; is appalled that MT Shipping Limited is planning to carry live animals from Harwich to Boulogne, a sea journey of eight hours; and calls on Her Majesty's Government to press European Union partners to adopt a maximum limit of eight hours on the journeys of animals being transported for slaughter.
