Inquiry Into The European Business School Parma, And The Degree-Awarding Powers Of;the University Of Wales

EDM number 305 in 1993-94, proposed by Rhodri Morgan on 16/12/1993.

That this House welcomes the setting up of a quasi-judicial inquiry by the University of Wales into the allegations of substantial irregularities in the conduct of end of year examinations in the summer of 1993 at the European Business School, Parma, under the academic supervision of the Cardiff Business School, a faculty of the University College of Wales at Cardiff, and for degrees to be validated by the University of Wales, involving the attempted bribing of a language teacher to award a favourable mark in the presence of the Academic Dean, Dr Patrick O'Sullivan, a member of staff of the Cardiff Business School, who is also alleged to have insisted on early submission of examination papers by the staff, for the purpose of an organised racket of selling those examination papers in advance to less academically interested students, via a chain of command involving the Academic Secretary Toral Petal, the Languages Co-ordinator, Clive McGowan and two student intermediaries, Fabiano Valentino and Emily Marinelli; and trusts that the inquiry will establish the truth speedily to minimise any further damage to the good name of the College and the Unversity.

This motion has been signed by a total of 4 MPs.
