Disappearance Of General Secretary Of The Iranian Assemblies Of God

That this House is deeply concerned at the disappearance of the General Secretary of the Iranian Assemblies of God, the Reverend Haik Hovsepian Mehr, on 19th January; notes that the Assemblies of God have been increasingly harassed by the Iranian authorities since June 1993 as a result of their refusal to sign a declaration stating that they will not allow Muslims or ex-Muslims in their church, and because the Assemblies of God have also refused to sign a letter stating that they enjoy full constitutional rights as Christians in Iran; is concerned that his disappearance is part of the increasing wave of persecution by the Iranian authorities against the Assemblies of God and other Iranian churches, which has included the forced closure of churches; and urges the Iranian government to end such persecution, to locate the Reverend Haik Hovsepian Mehr and to return him safely to his family as a matter of urgency.
