Sales Techniques Of Electricity Companies
EDM number 533 in 1993-94, proposed by Peter Bottomley on 03/02/1994.
That this House is concerned at the examples in the BBC consumer programme 'Watchdog' on Monday 24th and 31st January of recommendations for high priced home re-wiring that may, in part or in whole, be unnecessary from electricity company sales representatives who are neither electricians nor fully qualified electrical inspectors; invites the Government to review the protection available to consumers; asks if the statutory watchdog OFFER has the power to prevent deception or incompetence or high prices in this field; and calls on each electricity company to ensure that their home wiring inspections are carried out only by trained competent staff, not by incompetent untrained pressure sales people.
