Hedd Wyn Oscar Nomination In Foreign Film Category
EDM number 572 in 1993-94, proposed by Rhodri Morgan on 09/02/1994.
That this House congratulates S4C on its achievement in getting an Oscar nomination for its film Hedd Wyn, the first Welsh and the first Welsh language film to win an Oscar nomination, along with four films from Spain, Hong Kong, Vietnam and Taiwan, respectively, to contest the Foreign Film category award in Hollywood on 21st March; and believes that the quality of this film and its Oscar nomination is a recognition of the advances made in the Welsh media industry, and which, alongside the nomination of Sir Anthony Hopkins for the Best Actor Award for his performance in Remains of the Day, will bring great credit to the Welsh contribution to reviving the sadly depressed British film industry.
