Sale Of Seal Penises To China

EDM number 598 in 1993-94, proposed by Tony Banks on 11/02/1994.

That this House is appalled to learn of the deal being struck between the Terra Nova Fishery Co. Ltd. of Newfoundland and a company in Shanghai for the provision of 50,000 seal penises and other products; condemns the active encouragement of the deal by Newfoundland Premier Clyde Wells; believes the slaughter of seals primarily to provide an alleged aphrodisiac is as obscene as it is absurd; and calls upon the Canadian Government to recognise the inevitable revulsion felt by people in the United Kingdom and Canada at news of the impending deal and to call it off immediately.
