Human Cloning Experiments

EDM number 698 in 1993-94, proposed by David Alton on 01/03/1994.

That this House is concerned over persistent reports that human embryos have been cloned; is disturbed that such experiments are legal under current legislation and are being justified to produce spare parts for people; notes that by freezing artificial twins it may be possible to provide future couples with the pedigree children of their choice; predicting embryo performance from a twin already born; notes that current legislation only prevents cloning a child from a parent but permits multiple cloning from a single embryo; and calls on the Government to close this gap in current legislation.
