Cycle Routes
EDM number 709 in 1993-94, proposed by Nick Harvey on 01/03/1994.
That this House recognises the Government's support for cycling; notes the contribution that cycling can make in reducing congestion and pollution, together with improving health; further notes that road traffic is set to double by the year 2025; recognises that more people would cycle if road conditions enabled them to travel in greater comfort and safety; acknowledges that cycle route networks such as the 1000 miles for London have received Government support and should be advanced without delay; and therefore calls upon the Government to switch resources to the better management of local roads and to develop and fund a national strategy to encourage cycling through the implementation of cycle route networks throughout the United Kingdom.
