Future Standards Of Justice

That this House condemns the Government's total indifference to the immense disparity in sentences imposed by judges and magistrates, ranging from 150 hours community service for a fraud of Ãº30 million to imprisonment of pensioners for failure to pay a small amount of community charge, with the result that confidence in the judiciary has now reached an all-time low; and therefore calls for urgent action to reintroduce a basic standard of justice.
