Forestry Review

EDM number 72 in 1993-94, proposed by David Steel on 24/11/1993.

That this House welcomes the Government's policies of freedom to roam, of providing recreation facilities, of wildlife conservation, and of environmental enhancement in the Forestry Commission's forests; fully supports the multi-purpose objectives for the management of the Forestry Commission's forests, and the implementation of forest design plans for restructuring and landscaping the Commission's maturing forests to create greater diversity; notes with concern the possible erosion of these policies which any privatisation threatens; and calls on the Government to maintain and strengthen the Forestry Commission's multiple-purpose management role in its forests, in the context of public sector ownership.
