Erosion Of Health Care Services In North East Essex
EDM number 733 in 1993-94, proposed by Dawn Primarolo on 02/03/1994.
That this House notes with grave concern the continuing erosion of health care provision in North East Essex; is aware that orthopaedic and oncology services are under the care of re-siting which would increase hardship for North East Essex patients, in particular those in the Colchester area and especially the growing number of elderly on the Tendring peninsula; further notes the arbitrary decision by the Regional Health Authority to cancel the planned merger of the Institute of Health Studies with Essex University choosing instead Anglia Polytechnic University in Chelmsford and thereby severely reducing nurse training within the area resulting in 50 job losses of highly trained and dedicated staff; calls for the investigation into the management of the Institute of Health Studies, which took place in October 1993, to be made public; and concludes that the North East Thames Regional Health Authority must be held accountable to the public on these issues.
