Child Support Agency And Ms A. Of Birmingham

That this House calls into question the actions of the Child Support Agency in respect of Ms A. of Birmingham who, through no fault of her own, has suffered a reduction of over ú30 per week in her household income; notes that Ms. A is working to support her family and is in receipt of family credit; understands that the father of her children was regularly paying ú40 per week maintenance under the terms of the court order; deplores the fact that the interfering Child Support Agency had the court order revoked without telling Ms. A and that it has been replaced by a Child Support Agency agreed payment from the father of less than ú10 per week; realises that under present DSS rules Ms. A is unable to have her family credit re-assessed for several months; believes this to be a wholly inappropriate use of Child Support Agency powers; agrees that it is no comfort for Ms. A to be told by Child Support Agency staff 'this is a first - see your MP'; and calls for urgent action by the Secretary of State on the details of this case, which have been provided to him, to remedy the injustice done to Ms. A and her children by the actions of the Child Support Agency.
