Education Bill [lords]

That this House notes with approval their Lordships' rejection on 14th March of the separation of teacher training from higher education, a key principle of Part I of the Education Bill [Lords]; further notes the Government's humiliating withdrawal of the key Clause in Part II of the Bill relating to students' union reform; recalls the embarrassment of the Secretary of State for Education in having to withdraw proposals, before the Bill was published, to allow partly trained teachers to teach young children; believes that the Bill now contains virtually none of the Government's original proposals; and urges the Government to withdraw the remainder of the Bill in order to avoid yet more waste of parliamentary time.
