Proposed Closure Of Accrington Victoria Hospital Maternity Unit
EDM number 914 in 1993-94, proposed by Greg Pope on 22/03/1994.
That this House notes with deep concern the fact that Blackburn, Hyndburn and Ribble Valley Health Authority, at a meeting with only five members present, took less than five minutes to recommend the closure of the Maternity Unit at Accrington Victoria Hospital; further notes that this was the last ever meeting of the health authority prior to its replacement with a Trust on 1st April and that this partly explains the unseemly haste in recommending the closure of the Maternity Unit; congratulates Councillor Sheelagh Delaney, the Save Accrington Victoria Campaign, the local community health council, Hyndburn Borough Council and the honourable Member for Hyndburn Borough Council and the honourable Member for Hyndburn on their campaign to keep this Unit open; believes that the ill-considered decision by the health authority flies in the face of public opinion in Accrington; and therefore urges the Secretary of State for Health to refer this decision back for further discussion.
