Conduct Of The Rt Hon Member For Derby South And Hospital Closures

EDM number 1075 in 1994-95, proposed by David Shaw on 02/05/1995.

That this House notes that since 1979 a new multi-million hospital improvement or other major NHS capital project has been completed, on average, once every week and that capital investment in the Health Service is now running at 70 per cent. in real terms above the level inherited from the last Labour Government; further notes that another 110 schemes are either under construction or planned, including ú10 million to modernise completely the Accident and Emergency Department at the Derbyshire Royal Infirmary in the constituency of the Right honourable Lady for Derby South; condemns the Right honourable Lady for misrepresenting the closure of out-dated hospital buildings as cuts in patient care when in fact more patients are being treated to a higher standard in the NHS than ever before; and calls upon the Government to continue to invest in a health service for the 21st century measured by its modern patient care rather than by beds and bricks.

This motion has been signed by a total of 6 MPs.
