Richard Budge And Control Of Coal Assets

That this House views with grave concern the revelations in the Panorama programme screened on 1st May which showed that Mr Richard Budge, the Chief Executive of RJB Mining, the company to which the DTI sold the bulk of the coal mining operations in England, was known by the President of the Board of Trade following an investigation by the Insolvency Service to have been involved in unacceptable business practices which breached the Companies Act 1985 whilst he was a director of AR Budge Group; questions his fitness to be given charge of the major part of the United Kingdom's coal assets; and demands that Her Majesty's Government made a statement on the matter. (Relevant registered interest declared)
