Caravan Park Rating

EDM number 1188 in 1994-95, proposed by Ieuan Wyn Jones on 31/05/1995.

That this House expresses its serious concern at the damaging effect of the 1995 non-domestic rating valuation, particularly as it affects caravan sites; notes that payments by caravan park operators will, after allowing for transitional relief, double in real terms by the year 2000; notes further that this will inevitably lead to reduced employment and income in areas where caravan parks constitute a significant component in the local economy; notes also the impact on the United Kingdom balance of payments through the reduced competitiveness of the industry in comparison with overseas operators; and calls upon the Government to respond positively to the demands of the industry in the dicussions currently underway.
