Westminster Planning Decisions In Baker Street

That this House congratulates the Secretary of State for the Environment on taking action to delay the granting of planning permission to Flairline Properties by Westminster City Council, which would have enabled the demolition of properties at 20A-32 Baker Street, London W1, in order to consider whether this permission should be called in; is, however, concerned that he has no plans to investigate the conduct of Councillors David Weeks and Andrew Greystoke, despite the fact that he has a copy of the legal advice of Michael Barnes QC which says that their conduct constituted a breach of the National Local Government Code of conduct and that the proceedings of the planning committee were arguably contrary to the principles of natural justice; believes that his refusal to investigate these matter is another example of the Government's refusal to take effective action against corrupt Conservative Councillors on Westminster City Council despite masses of evidence pointing to the fact that they have gerrymandered local wards, targeted spending on 'key wards', set up bogus charities to fund political campaigns, run 'dirty tricks' campaigns against local community homes and overcharged council tenants by ú6.5 million to cover repairs charges they failed to collect from council house purchasers; hopes that the Secretary of State's most recent action is not merely a smokescreen behind which he will hide a continuing lack of action against Westminster; and urges him to call in the applications and preserve 20A-32 Baker Street.
