Closure Of Broadgreen Hospital Accident And Emergency Unit

EDM number 1323 in 1994-95, proposed by Eddie Loyden on 29/06/1995.

That this House is concerned that there will not be enough beds at the Royal Liverpool Hospital to cope with additional accident and emergency work if Broadgreen Hospital's casualty department is closed to blue light emergencies in July; notes that the overall plan is to close between 80 to 150 acute service beds at the Broadgreen Hospital and site and open 40 to 80 low dependency, patient hotel, beds at the Royal Liverpool Hospital; and further notes that the issue of the transfer of acute services without consultation is a serious cause for concern especially when written and verbal assurances have been given by the Minister of State for Health, the honourable Member for Bolton West, to honourable Members on numerous occasions and one as recently as 16th May, Official Report, column 142, by his colleague, the honourable Member for Battersea, that there will be no closure of Broadgreen Hospital Accident and Emergency Unit until alternative casualty services were in place.

This motion has been signed by a total of 27 MPs.
