British Gas And The Labour Party

EDM number 1325 in 1994-95, proposed by Alex Salmond on 29/06/1995.

That this House notes comments by the Right honourable Member for Dunfermline East and the honourable Member for Edinburgh South who were both critical of the role played by pension funds at the recent British Gas AGM; further notes comments in the press by the Labour leader of Strathclyde Regional Council, Councillor Robert Gould, when he defended Strathclyde Region's failure to direct their fund managers to vote against the British Gas Board and the outrageous pay rises which they had been awarded; regrets that the Labour Party seems incapable of agreeing a common approach to this important issue; and calls on the Right honourable Member for Dunfermline East and the honourable Member for Edinburgh South to dissociate themselves from Councillor Gould's remarks which only serve to undermine the campaign against the fat cat bosses of public utilities.
