Revaluation Of Caravan And Camping Parks

EDM number 1360 in 1994-95, proposed by Ieuan Wyn Jones on 06/07/1995.

That this House notes that the the increase in business rates on caravan and camping parks as a result of the recent revaluation of business premises will have a substantial impact on the tourist industry in Wales; notes that, on average, these increases mean that rates payable will increase by a factor of between two and four; further notes that as a result of the recession and other difficulties, operators have not been able to increase their site fees for a number of years and will be unable to pass on the whole of the increase in rates to their customer; calls on the Government to recognise the difficulties faced by caravan and camping sites owners by ensuring that revaluations take the profitability of the businesses more into account; and calls for a complete overhaul of the legislation on rating insofar as it affects caravan and camping sites so as to produce a much fairer and more equitable system for future revaluations.
