Peace Process In Western Sahara

That this House notes the resolution of the UN Security Council following its delegation to Western Sahara and refugee camps in Algeria on 3rd to 9th June and recognises its importance to the peace process; supports the decision to extend the mandate of MINURSO, the UN peacekeeping force, until 30th September; expresses grave concern over the delays in the holding of a free and fair referendum for the Saharawi people; urges Her Majesty's Government to apply pressure on Morocco and Polisario to enter into direct negotiations to resolve the problems impeding registration for the referendum; and calls upon Morocco to release all Saharawi prisoners, including students recently arrested in Layouna following a peaceful demonstration, and to guarantee free access of journalists and independent observers to the occupied Western Sahara.
