Westminster Waste Transport

EDM number 1446 in 1994-95, proposed by Kate Hoey on 19/07/1995.

That this House condemns Westminster Council for the decision to stop using the river to transport its waste but instead send up to 1,000 tons of waste a day cross London bylorry; notes that an extra 50 lorries will be put on London's already overcrowded roads; further notes the condemnation of Westminster by the Port of London Authority, the Waterways Association and the London Rivers Association; and calls on the Secretary of State for the Environment to express his regret to that council that they have not complied with his strategy for the use of the River Thames or with the wishes of Londoners that the river should play a full part as a desirable means of transport.
