Nobel Peace Prize

EDM number 1456 in 1994-95, proposed by Margaret Ewing on 16/10/1995.

That this House congratulates the winner of the 1995 Nobel Peace Prize, Professor Joseph Rotblat, the distinguished scientist, medical physicist, academic and founder member of the Campaign for Nuclear Disarmament on attaining the highest accolade for furthering world peace; believes that this is a fitting tribute to the lifelong struggle waged by him to rid the world of the threat of nuclear destruction; notes his valuable contribution in helping to establish the influential Pugwash Conferences on Science and World Affairs which have done much to further the cause of peace and the process of nuclear disarmament; salutes this man of high moral principles, who never wavers from his total condemnation of the obscenity of nuclear weapons; and acknowledges the continuing debt of gratitude which the world owes to Professor Rotblat and his distinguished scientific colleagues for their tireless pursuit of the cause of world peace.
