Boxing (No. 2)

EDM number 1458 in 1994-95, proposed by Lynne Jones on 16/10/1995.

That this House expresses its sorrow at the death of the boxer James Murray on Sunday 15th October, and sends its sympathies to the family of Mr Murray; also expresses its extreme concern that the sport of boxing has once again led to the death of a young man; notes that the British Medical Association has stated once again that the only solution would be a complete ban on boxing, as enforced by other countries such as Sweden; urges the Government to reconsider its position on the sport in view of the rising number of deaths and serious injuries as a result of boxing; and believes that a total ban is the only way to prevent other young men from losing their lives or from suffering irreversible brain damage in pursuit of the fortunes with which they have been tempted by promoters and managers.

This motion has been signed by a total of 15 MPs.
